Christmas Vacation

For sure Christmas Vacation is in my top five movies. All Time. No matter how many times I watch it, I still find myself laughing uncontrollably as I watch it once again.  I guess I just never tire of Clark Griswold and his fun, old fashioned, family Christmas!

Deer Widow Relay

Sometimes you just have to make up your own race because making it to any of the real races that day just ain't happening.  Sometimes you just have to stand beside your sister and her crazy, hair-brained idea and say, "Of course I need to run 8 miles Saturday".  Sometimes you don't finish the box of wine, but you do finish the race and that's what really counts. Sometimes.

The Bridges of York County

This fall we decided to make things really interesting** by planning two out of state races less than two weeks apart!   No sooner had the sisters somewhat unpacked from Boston, did we find ourselves packing up again to hit some hard core trails on a 24 hour Ragnar Relay adventure and boy did things get... interesting**!

**interesting in this context means occasionally overwhelming, somewhat stressful, totally exhausting, but still SUPER AWESOME.

Us sisters are not necessarily known for our organizational or planning skills (unless having a reputation for lacking these things counts). Nor are we recognized for our directional prowess (because we continually get lost-- even when going to familiar places), but despite all of this, we sure pulled off an epic and amazing adventure this past weekend.

Stay the course

When the sisters get together (which we've already established is not nearly often enough) we tend to have a few constants: beer, running, fun and (almost always) children are involved.  We stay the course in regards to these consistencies as they have served us well over the years.  I mean, look at all the cool stuff we've done and we're both still alive and nobody has been arrested (yet)!  Anyhow, this past weekend was the Annual Smith Siblings Camping Weekend and we managed to fit in all of our favorite things in just three short days!  Here's what happened...

Not fast, but not last

When you take the time to voyage off the beaten path to a quaint little island where no motorized vehicles are allowed, where fudge is king and where lilacs are being honored, you can't help but have a most awesome time. And boy did we have a memorable adventure!

We're actually running a race!

Yes it's true...we, the sisters, are actually going to run a race....  together.....this weekend. Wow!!!

I feel like I've won the lottery and I can hardly stand the waiting for my hot cash!  And the best part of all this,  ALL the sisters are going to be there and ONE brand new sister-in-law running her first EVER 10K!!! Oh and our MOM and her BFF went ahead and signed up too!  It's gonna be so awesome baby!  Next week you'll get that story, but for right now I will ride the anticipation high on Global Running Day and work on packing my bags for this upcoming adventure!

Who knows...Maybe we will find the Nestle Bunny, a leprechaun or someone equally famous at the end of this one!  It won't count as a new state because it is on Mackinaw Island, but it will count as an epic adventure.
